PCRC BENUE STATE COMMAND INSTALLS HON. COMMISSIONER FOR WOMEN AFFAIRS AND SOCIAL WELFARE, BENUE STATE, HON. MRS. THERESA ODACHI IKWUE AS STATE MATRON

The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare (MWASW), Benue State, Hon. Mrs. Theresa Odachi Ikwue, on Friday received in audience the leadership of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Benue State Command, during a courtesy visit to her office. The visit featured her formal decoration and appointment as the Matron of the PCRC, Benue State Command.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of PCRC expressed the Committee’s profound delight in honouring Hon. Mrs. Ikwue with the appointment, describing it as a well-deserved recognition of her outstanding contributions to community development, her exemplary leadership, and her unwavering commitment to strengthening peace, security, and cooperation between the police and the people of Benue State. He further highlighted her long-standing dedication to human capital development and societal progress since the early 2000s.

The Chairman also outlined the responsibilities of the new Matron, which include providing guidance and support to community leadership, strengthening the Committee’s programmes and capacity-building initiatives, and promoting community policing interventions aimed at tackling insecurity, child abuse, molestation, Gender-based violence, and child trafficking. He emphasized her strategic role as a bridge between stakeholders, traditional institutions, and security agencies.

Speaking on behalf of the Patron of the PCRC and Director General, Radio Benue Corporation, Mr. Terseer Mnzuulga, the Acting Director of Administration and Supply, Mrs. Judith Ageewua, commended the development and pledged continued media support to promote the Committee’s activities. She encouraged the Commissioner to remain steadfast in her impactful work, which has consistently yielded positive results.

Responding, the Honourable Commissioner expressed heartfelt appreciation to the delegation for finding her worthy of such a significant role. She commended the PCRC Chairman, Comrade Francis Ihyongu, for his proactive leadership and innovative approaches toward promoting peace and security in Benue State. She also acknowledged the productive collaboration between the Ministry and various law-enforcement agencies, noting that such synergy has greatly contributed to maintaining peace and order across communities.

Hon. Mrs. Ikwue dedicated the appointment to all female Directors in the Ministry, stating that they would collectively serve alongside her as co-matrons.
She assured the Committee of her commitment to mobilize the wives of all Local Government Chairmen, wives of Legislators, and wives of Political Appointees to support PCRC programmes, emphasizing that family security is central to combating insecurity. As mothers, she said, their involvement will further strengthen crime-prevention efforts at all levels of governance.

She reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to partnering with the PCRC and all relevant groups to promote a

safer, more peaceful Benue State, especially for women and children.

On a conclusive note and in response to the PCRC State Chairman’s request, the Honourable Commissioner graciously agreed to sponsor 15 Directors and other staff members to the January 2026 National Capacity Building Workshop organized by the National leadership of PCRC ably led by its dedicated, innovative and Workaholic National Chairman Alh. Magaji Ibrahim Olaniyan.
