Promoting gender equality, child protection, and sustainable social welfare across our communities.
The Benue State Ministry of Women Affairs was established in 1999 following the creation of the state, with a mandate to promote the welfare and development of women in Benue State. Over the years, the ministry has evolved to address emerging challenges facing women and girls in the state.
Since its inception, the ministry has implemented numerous programs and initiatives aimed at empowering women economically, socially, and politically. These include skills acquisition programs, micro-credit schemes, advocacy against harmful traditional practices, and support for survivors of gender-based violence.
In 2015, the ministry was restructured to better align with global standards and best practices in gender mainstreaming. This restructuring led to the creation of specialized directorates focusing on key areas such as economic empowerment, social welfare, and legal services.
Today, the ministry continues to be at the forefront of promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in Benue State, working in collaboration with local and international partners to create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
The Benue State Government remains committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance across all sectors of public service. Within the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare (MOWA), these values guide our mission to protect the vulnerable, empower women, and advance social inclusion throughout the State.
The Ministry continues to strengthen its systems and programs to ensure that resources are effectively utilized for the benefit of women, children, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups. Through clear policies, community engagement, and collaboration with partners, MOWA upholds integrity and fairness in delivering impactful social services and empowerment initiatives.
We call on all stakeholders—government agencies, civil society organizations, and community leaders—to uphold these same principles of accountability and service. Together, we can build a Benue where equity, justice, and compassion drive lasting social transformation.
