World Bank Delegation Visits Benue Women’s Commissioner as NFWP-SU Takes Off

The World Bank, led by Mrs. Yetunde Fatogun, alongside the delegation of the Federal Project Coordinating Unit (FPCU) of the Nigeria For Women Program–Scale Up (NFWP-SU), paid an official visit to Hon. (Mrs.) Theresa Odachi Ikwue, Benue State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, on January 13, 2026. Received by the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Martha Edor, the team confirmed the state government’s commitment to the project, which will pilot empowerment initiatives for women in Vandeikya, Gwer-East, and Okpokwu LGAs.
The World Bank-assisted project aligns with Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s deliberate efforts to equip Benue women with sustainable livelihoods for their families- Hon. Mrs. Ikwue stated.
The State Project implementation unit is intend to engaged officials across the local government and council wards to organise women in groups of 15-25 called Women Affinity Groups (WAG) that will drive the implementation to the grassroots.
