The transformative Nigeria for Women Program Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) Project has taken a significant step forward in Vandeikya Local Government Area with the commencement of the screening exercise for Local Government Area (LGA) Anchor Staff. The exercise, which began on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, follows the official flag-off ceremony held the previous day 16th January, 2026.

The screening marks a critical phase in selecting competent personnel who will anchor the program’s implementation at the grassroots, ensuring its benefits reach eligible women across the LGA.

Leadership Commits to Empowerment and Inclusivity

The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Mrs. Theresa Odachi Ikwue, officially opened the exercise. In her address, she reaffirmed the project’s core mission to empower women and transform livelihoods for current and future generations.

“What may appear to be a small business opportunity is designed to transform not only your lives but also those of future generations,” stated Hon. Ikwue. She encouraged all applicants to remain focused and resolute, reminding them that “the end of everything is better than the beginning thereof.”

Noting challenges with initial participant turnout and preparedness, the Honourable Commissioner demonstrated a commitment to inclusivity. She assured applicants of her intention to liaise with the screening team to organize a make-up interview, ensuring no eligible candidate is left behind due to initial logistical hurdles.

Stakeholders Express Gratitude and Support

Hon. Mrs. Philomena Guda, wife of the Vandeikya LGA Chairman, conveyed profound appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for selecting Vandeikya as a beneficiary. She also commended Hon. Commissioner Ikwue for her “motherly support, dedication, and hands-on coordination” throughout the process.

The Secretary of the Federal coordinating Unit of NFWP-SU Project, Mr. Afolabi Olajide, emphasized the importance of commitment from participants. He challenged applicants to demonstrate seriousness through punctuality and engagement, which are vital for the program’s success.

Participants Enthusiastic and Ready to Serve

Prospective anchor staff expressed optimism about the program’s impact. Participants including Madam Awase Elizabeth, Vihiavega Benjamin, and Dooshima Gwaza described the initiative as timely and impactful. They pledged their full commitment, highlighting their existing experience as coordinators of various community groups and cooperatives, and promised to deploy their skills to advance the program’s objectives.
