Benue State Appoints Key Project Team for the World Bank -Nigeria for Women Scale-Up Programme

Makurdi, Benue State

The Benue State Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Welfare has announced the formal appointment of the State Project Coordinating Unit (SPCU) for the prestigious Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU), a significant empowerment initiative funded by the World Bank.

The appointments were confirmed via a letter from the World Bank dated January 14, 2026, addressed to the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry. This marks a crucial step in implementing the project designed to enhance the livelihoods and economic opportunities for women across the state.

The first batch appointed SPCU team members are:

Mr. Williams Fele Nyamdue Agber – State Project Coordinator (SPC)

Mr. Solomon Bumkeng – Project Internal Auditor (PIA)

Mrs. Susan Nguamo Azoom – Project Accountant (PA)

This highly qualified team will be responsible for the overall coordination, financial management, and transparent implementation of the project in Benue State.

Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU):

The NFWP-SU is a strategic initiative supported by the World Bank to scale up a proven model for women’s economic empowerment across Nigeria.It focuses on social, financial, and human capital development for women through group formation, capacity building, and access to resources.

Project Launch and Focus Areas

The first phase of the Nigeria for Women Scale-Up Project will commence in three (3) pilot Local Government Areas (LGAs), strategically selected across the state’s zones:

Vandeikya LGA – Representing Zone A

Gwer-East LGA – Representing Zone B

Okpokwu LGA – Representing Zone C

The project aims to form and strengthen Women Affinity Groups (WAGs), facilitate access to financial resources, and build life skills and business capacity for thousands of women, thereby fostering sustainable economic growth at the grassroots level.

The successful attraction and commencement of this World Bank project underscore the commitment of the Benue State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Hyacinth Alia, to partner with international development organizations to deliver transformative initiatives for the people.
