Nkafamiya Rescue (NRM) Mission, in partnership with the Benue State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
1.0 Introduction
On March 12th, 2026, Nkafamiya Rescue (NRM) Mission, in collaboration with the Benue State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, commemorated International Women’s Day at the International Market IDP Camp in Makurdi. The event was designed to move beyond mere celebration, focusing instead on tangible empowerment and support for vulnerable women in the camp.
2.0 Objective
The primary aim of the event was to empower and support women of reproductive age within the IDP Camp by providing them with practical vocational skills and essential hygiene products to improve their health and economic independence.
3.0 Activities and Empowerment Initiatives
A total of 40 women of reproductive age were selected to participate in the program. The core activities included:
Skills Training: The women were sensitized and trained on the process of liquid soap making. This practical skill was chosen specifically to serve a dual purpose: improving hygiene standards within their households and providing a potential source of income through local sales.
· Health Support: In recognition of the specific health challenges faced by displaced women, Lady Care sanitary products were distributed to all attendees. This initiative aimed to promote personal hygiene and support menstrual health management.
4.0 Dignitaries and Goodwill Messages
The event was honored by the presence of the Director of Women Affairs Mrs. Magdalene Andor, who represented the Honourable Commissioner Hon. Mrs. Theresa Odachi Ikwue Also in attendance were representatives from CSO-Benue state. In their goodwill messages, the dignitaries commended the initiative led by Nkafamiya Rescue Mission. They encouraged the women to utilize the knowledge and support provided to improve their livelihoods and build resilience.
5.0 Conclusion
The International Women’s Day celebration at the International Market IDP Camp was highly impactful and well received by the participants. By combining skills acquisition with the direct provision of health resources, the program provided a holistic form of support that addressed both the economic and personal needs of the women.
